Lure Nightclub… What Happened?

September 21, 2010 in Opinion, Scene STL News by SceneSTL

Lure Nightclub may be the latest victim of nightclub closures in the St. Louis area. The club launched in Summer of 2008 and quickly became one of the more popular nightlife destinations on Washington Avenue. The venue has hosted many top DJs and celebrities. The highlight of the club’s events was easily the Playboy All-Star Party in 2009. The party was packed full of celebrities, Playboy Playmates, and amazing eye candy. See the pictures HERE.

Even with all the celebrity and glamour the club started to have problems that are well documented by local news sources the RFT, and Stltoday. Now after a ruling handed down from Municipal Judge Margaret Walsh, the club is going to lose it’s liquor license October 17. The owners of Lure plan to appeal the ruling. If Lure closes it will be a major loss to the “Scene” in St. Louis, especially since it’s coming right on the heels of the HOME Nightclub closure (read about that HERE). Although SceneSTL will miss Lure we understand that there are those of you out there that are glad to see the club go. We want to hear from both sides, please vote in our poll and leave a comment.

Song of the Day: YTCracker "The Link"

September 16, 2010 in Song of the Day by SceneSTL

Many of you have probably never heard of Nerdcore, it’s a genre of hip hop that has a strong appeal to nerds. To be honest I never heard of Nerdcore before researching this post, but I might be in the target demo (maybe) and when I saw the video for YTCracker’s latest track I knew it was worthy of mention. The song has a mid tempo dubstep like thump to it with YTCracker rapping with Emimen style cadence. Interestingly enough YTCracker has some serious nerd cred. He is a former hacker/cracker who is known for defacing the webpages of several federal and municipal government websites in the United States, as well as several in private industry at the age of 17. Now here is a guy who knows well of what he is rapping about. Check out the video and let me know what you think, you can buy the track from iTunes if you like it and of course comments are appreciated. :-)

Song of the Day: Armin van Buuren Feat. Sophie Ellis Bextor "Not Giving Up On Love"

September 13, 2010 in Song of the Day by SceneSTL

Armin van Buuren makes his second appearance in Hear the Music with the first single form his brand new album “Mirage”. The song will be very familiar to many of his fans who like me think his music works best with a strong female lead vocals. This time that job falls to English singer, songwriter, and model Sophie Ellis Bextor and she handles the job amazingly well. This song is really the type that will stand the test of time for van Buuren and is ripe to be remixed. Take a listen and let us know what you think leave a comment below.
